Nobody left her table hungry
Susan cooked for every reunion from 1988 onwards — forty-two covers at the first one, nearly two hundred at the last. Her handwritten recipe book, stained with gravy and annotated in three hands, is now scanned into the archive for every new household.
She had a gift for seating plans: feuding cousins found themselves passing the potatoes by pudding. The Winter Hearth Gathering still opens with her toast, read aloud by the youngest at the table.
