Boots on, cousins out
Our winter walk starts at the farmhouse gate and winds through the old forest to the clearing where Arthur's oak stands. Halfway there: hot soup from vacuum flasks. At the clearing: a picnic, rounders (under-tens versus everyone), and the annual branch photograph.

How the day unfolds
11am – The long walk
Two miles through the old forest at grandparent pace, with the soup stop at the halfway stile.
1pm – Picnic at the oak
Blankets down under Arthur's tree. Margaret's spreadsheet assigns the sandwiches; the flasks do the rest.
2.30pm – Rounders & stories
The fiercest fixture of the year, followed by the elders' story circle for anyone with cold hands.
