Henry told every story twice — once for the children, once for the adults after bedtime — and both versions were worth hearing. His sunset gatherings on the great lawn are where the reunion tradition began.

He kept a notebook of family sayings that now runs to four volumes. Ask any Bellamy for their favourite; nobody picks the same one.
